During my 7 years on the Board of Supervisors, I have focused on the following Countywide issues:
Energizing Economic Prosperity
Transitioning to a vibrant renewable energy economy; developing a Comprehensive Regional Economic Development Strategy to prepare now for the business sectors of the future along the Central Coast; creating a regional broadband program that will bring middle- and last-mine connections to under served rural areas in our County; and sponsoring an Agricultural Enterprise Ordinance to expand revenue-generating activities for farmers and ranchers.
Enhancing Parks, Trails & Libraries
Promoting new trails and parklands throughout the County; sponsoring the Countywide Recreation Master Plan; and increasing library funding and regional library planning.
Tackling Homelessness
Clearing encampments humanely by offering temporary tiny-home shelters and creating transitional and permanent supportive housing projects like the Hedges House of Hope in Isla Vista and Buena Tierra in Goleta, and a major renovation at the Bridgehouse in Lompoc next year.
Creating A Safer, Healthier Community
Championing mental health initiatives such as Laura’s Law, Co-Response, Sobering Centers, and new beds at the Champion Center in Lompoc; supporting Regional 911 Dispatch for fire and ambulance services, and promoting shared fire safety through new Fire Safe Council programs.
Producing Homes for Our Workforce
Pursuing policies to allow for more workforce housing so more people employed in the County can live here by simplifying permits for farmworker housing and adopting a new housing element with policies to promote infill and local workforce preferences.
Your Voice, Our Action
Fostering responsive government by acting on requests promptly and working hard to help residents get the answers and services they need while operating on many levels to ensure that County Government operates in a fiscally sound and effictive way.
